How to Disable Xbox Game DVR on Windows 10 (Gaming Input Lag Issues)

Xbox Game DVR is a feature built into the Xbox App on Windows 10 that allows you to capture the previous 30 seconds of gameplay and share it just like the Xbox One and PS4 share button. Ideally, this sounds really useful but if you are running a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd generation Intel processor it really bogs down your CPU and causes alot of input lag in games. This tutorial shows you how to disable the feature and free up alot of resources

  1. Please help. I am on the xbox app and when i go to settings > game DVR it shows nothing besides "go to windows settings". When i go here i can't find game DVR.

  2. Here is the proper way to do it. If you aren't scared of doing a little reg editing.

    1. Open Registry Editor (Run > regedit)

    Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog, then just type regedit in text box and press enter.

    2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSystemGameConfigStore

    Just a few cascading folders, this should be pretty easy to find.

    3. Set the value of DWORD "GameDVR_Enabled" to 0

    You'll see "GameDVR_Enabled" in the pane to the right of the folders. Double click "GameDVR_Enabled" and change the number from 1 to 0. Click okay.

    4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindows

    This is back in the folder pane, easy to find just like before.

    5. Create key "GameDVR"

    Don't panic. Just right click the Windows folder and in the drop down menu click on New > Key. This makes another folder inside it, which you will name GameDVR.

    6. Create DWORD 32bit called "AllowGameDVR" and set to 0

    Don't panic again! Make sure you're in the GameDVR folder you just created. In the pane to the right just right click in the empty space there and in the drop down menu click on New > DWORD 32bit. Name it AllowGameDVR. It should automatically be 0, but double click it to make sure and set the number value to 0.

    7. Restart your computer.

    You're done! Xbox Game DVR is now permanently disabled.
