HOW-TO: Edit and Save the Windows Hosts file on Windows 8/7/Vista

In this video, you can learn how to change your Windows Hosts file and save it in the correct manner. There may be other methods of changing the hosts file, but I found this method to be the easiest.

The location of the hosts file will be determined by the drive that you have your Windows OS installed on. Most computers have Windows installed on their C:/ drive.

  1. For Every1 who says They can't save it and save a option pops up. All you have to do is right click on the host files, go to properties. It's set as read only as defaults so uncheck read only. Afterwards when save as pops up click all files and click on the host file and then save. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU ALL!

You make a good point but their is another way and faster, just got to your host file and on the host file right click and click properties and jus click edit and click allow as admin apply and click OK and voaila!! but other than that you make it simple to follow nice and clear instructions. Good job.

  3. Heres a easier way.
    Get Notepad++ and open the host file with the notepad++.

    Once done editing, it will ask you if you want to save it as an admin if you didnt ran the notepad++ as admin from the start.
