Installation run-through of Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 in VMWare Workstation 8 or 9 for Windows. Workstation 8/9 requires a CPU that supports the 64bit instruction set, but for older computers, the installation is virtually identical under Workstation 7, which doesn’t require the 64bit instruction set.

Tip: Once installed, each time you log in to the desktop, first click on the Ubuntu icon in the password/login box and select Unity 2d. This will provide better performance in the Virtual Machine…

  1. I have VMware 9, I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 and 13.10 several time and I haven't get the launcher or the status bar, Instead I have gotten a lot of unsteady panels. What could be wrong?

  2. When i get done and start it up it gives me this message:

"This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest operating systems. However, 64-bit operation is not possible.

This host supports Intel VT-x, but Intel VT-x is disabled.

Intel VT-x might be disabled if it has been disabled in the BIOS/firmware settings or the host has not been power-cycled since changing this setting.

    (1) Verify that the BIOS/firmware settings enable Intel VT-x and disable 'trusted execution.'

    (2) Power-cycle the host if either of these BIOS/firmware settings have been changed.

    (3) Power-cycle the host if you have not done so since installing VMware Workstation.

    (4) Update the host's BIOS/firmware to the latest version.

  5. It takes awhile, and there are some points in the installation where the screen is blank and nothing seems to be happening. Give it some time. If the screensaver kicks in and the screen goes black, click in the console to make sure the mouse is selected and then press any key to restore the screen.

  6. I can do up to 6:45 seconds. but I face is a black screen. "Easy Install VMware PLEASE WAIT! VMware Tools is currently being installed on your system. Depending on the version of Ubuntu you are installing, you may log in below and use the system during the installation. Otherwise, please wait for the graphical environment to launch. Thank you, "writes. Is there anything I can do but wait?
