In this Linux bash for beginners tutorial we are going to modify the recorded dates associated with a file.

The linux filesystem records three types of dates per file and directory.

– The modify date records when the file was modified.
– The change date records when the file was changed.
– The access date records when the file was last accessed.

A files modify date can be altered without the file being accessed. When this happens the files change date records this information.
