linux route add command – linux static routing

Route manipulates the kernel’s IP routing tables. Its primary use is to set up static routes to specific hosts or networks via an interface after it has been configured with the ifconfig(8) program.

When the add or del options are used, route modifies the routing tables. Without these options, route displays the current contents of the routing tables.


  1. brother i have 4 NIC in my server suse linux server two of them configured, as bellow
    Nic1 is configured for one network which we have internet on that and also local access
    NIC2 is configured on other netwrok
    i configured default route . my question is that can i configured two default gateway, when i give other default gateway the first one is cleared by default i want to have internet as will gives application access to other network ppl
