Nvidia CUDA Toolkit driver Install Ubuntu Mint 16 04.

If you are wondering why the install doesn’t finish its because the demonstration was done in VM – impossible to have the driver complete install when you are not running an OS on hardware.

I assure you this install works exactly as promised. I install this driver the same way every-time and it always finishes perfect. Not a single thing is missing from this – most complete guide on the internet right…

  1. This guide has some pretty big differences from the NVIDIA installation guide, and unfortunately, neither one is working for me(I'm new to Linux so the problem may be with me)… When I use the commands using this guide, the installer runs, but the nouveau drivers are still running because you don't use the command "sudo update-initramfs -u" like the NVIDIA guide does do update the blacklist(this is confirmed by running the command "lsmod | grep nouveau". According to the NVIDIA guide, this command prints out the nouveau driver status if it is running, and nothing if it is not running).

Note that when running your instructions on my machine, the installer runs and gives a message that a reboot is required to complete the installation(as expected), but when rebooting, checking the installation with commands "nvcc –version" and "nvidia-smi" that should print out nvidia Cuda core version, and nvidia driver system information, both give errors, and the nouveau drivers are still running after a reboot.

Some information I have read may suggest that it is an issue with the Linux kernel version after being updated post meltdown and specter patches that may be an issue.
