Server Boot Time: Ubuntu 10.04 vs. CentOS 5.5

A comparison between the time it takes for a server-only (no GUI) installation to boot to the login prompt between Ubuntu 10.04 “Lucid Lynx” (on the left) and CentOS 5.5 (on the right). Both are KVM virtual machines running on the same system, with the base packages plus Nagios. As you can see, Ubuntu wins by a mile.


  1. interesting debate, i had 300 ubuntu server cluster running n never give me any issue except oom due to over tuning. centos is for "marketing" n ubuntu for real serious task. 🙂
