  1. you could just use Grub Customizer. it gives you a nice GUI to change Grub any way you want. it also allows you to back up and restore grub. Grub Customizer is a far better Method. You should have a look at it if you never used it before.

  2. Haven't you forgotten to mention to "grub-update", so that the changes are actually made and in your description it says "gksudo gedit /etc(default/grub" instead of "gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub".
