Can you play this in "real time"? Back in the late 1990's, I used a program called. "Gigasample" & "Gigapiano" (1GB of samples for Gigasample) I ran it on a Compaq Presario, 200mhz Pentium CPU w/32MB RAM. I used a Korg O1W as a controller, & Midiman 2X2 interface, & had no latency issues. 17 years later with all the advances in processing power & RAM, I get 100-200ms of latency when trying to use SAVIHost. I've used Quadcore 2.4ghz dekstop w/8GB RAM, & several laptops: dual core 1.8ghz w/3GB RAM, i3 2.2ghz w/6GB RAM & i7 3.9ghz with 12GB RAM. I've used a Yamaha Motif 6, Korg Kronos X 88 & Roland SH-01 Gaia as controllers (via direct USB & no MIDI interface) & even the keyboards on my laptops, yet I always get 100-200ms latency. That makes it impossible to play in real time.
It could be due to my own ignorance & or PC limitations, but VSTs are basically useless to me. (little more than curiosities/"toys") In the late 90's I had Gigasample/Gigapiano. I ran it on a Pentium 4, 200mhz w/32mb RAM & a MIDI-Man PC/MIDI interface & I had negligible or NO latency issues. Now when I try to run SAVIHost on my i3 2.4ghz, w/6gb RAM & direct USB/MIDI, I get 0.1 to 0.2 seconds of latency. It's almost like the PC/VST technology hasn't advanced, but instead it's actually REgressed.
