This video’s focus for the benchmark and analysis are solely on the performance of the native versions of Unreal Tournament on Ubuntu and Windows.

DISCLAIMER: UT is still in pre-alpha. Things could get better or worse depending on Unreal’s focus in future updates. UT is free, so you’re able to test it yourself as well. Don’t just take my word for it, find out for yourself!

Ubuntu 15.04 with Nvidia 355.11

2. Benchmark Results…

  1. That's so horrible D: i was expecting good perforamnc e 🙁 kind of wish they used vulkan. or atleast they had a proper linux version 🙁 looks like I won't be downloading it then!

  2. They really need to improve performances. I can't imagine next steam games using UE4 running badly on steamos.
I think, some users in the ue forums are helping epic to get it better.

  3. Unfortunately for OpenGL, due to its high overhead it always loses to DirectX. There's no way we can install DirectX on Linux systems. Unreal Engine 4 lacks HDR rendering on OpenGL 3 API. Hopefully we will see games and demos powered by Vulkan API.

  4. I have also been running storm united the new updated version for Linux, the performance is really good (100 – 120 FPS on GTX 760 everything on Max) and its also running on UE4, maybe its a unreal tournament project issue.

Maybe a comparison video of storm united running on Linux and Windows 🙂 ?

  5. On Linux (openSUSE 13.1 + KDE 4.14.10) with Core i7 4770 + nVidia EVGA GTX 960 (drivers 352.41), no problems with resolution, mouse or keeping settings. All those things happening on your side.
The biggest frame-rate drops happens with SHOCK RIFLE, standing still 60 fps, take out SHOCK RIFLE 43-45 fps, like WTF!?

  6. great video, but like with almost everything __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1 is needed. it pretty much eliminates those huge drops that you had.. i was able to play smooth without any drops below 60 on epic settings
Edit: havent tested the latest version yet though (seems it has been updated again recently)

  7. Well that explains why I couldn't run UrT 4 and Storm United that well – even though supposedly the saying goes "if you could run CS:GO, you can run UrT4" – YEAH RIGHT! — Also I made video on how to run Unreal Tournament 4 on Linux in under a minute. It's pretty easy.

  8. nice video, and yes, it seems to be than the OpenGL renderer is still not properly optimized on UE4, and since he game it's a prealpha I guess it's just a matter of time until it gets improved. I still wonder if we should expect less fps once it will be released.
