To Enable Playback Of HEVC (H.265) just run the following commands via your systems Terminal.

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:strukturag/libde265

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install gstreamer1.0-libde265 gstreamer0.10-libde265

  1. If you don't have a core i7 then its best to use raw ffmpeg for playing back HEVC videos.
    add this repo – ppa:mc3man/trusty-media & install the package 'ffmpeg'
    Now use this command: ffplay </path/to/file.mkv'
    On my amd PC CPU usage went down from 150% to 75% using the version of ffmpeg on that repo. I use the left/right arrow keys to go back/forward
