This tutorial covers deploying a fully-updated Windows 7 64-bit operating system image in a fully-automated fashion through WDS using unattended answer files.
The prerequisites for this exercise include having a Server 2012 domain environment set up which includes AD-DS, DNS, DHCP, Hyper-V, WDS, and ADK.

In order to complete the following exercise it is highly recommended that users have viewed and completed the exercises in my previous video, “Windows Deployment Services with Hyper-V in…

  1. Hey Chris,

This process worked well for me when using a Generation 1 machine in Hyper-V on my Windows Server 2012 R2. Is there any way you could help with this process but for Generation 2 machine in Hyper-V?

I get the error: "Windows could not set a partition active on disk 0. The target disk, partition, or volume does not support the specified operation. The error occurred while applying the unattend answer file's <DiskConfiguration> setting. Error code: 0X80300024"

What setting am I missing in a Windows 10 version of Windows SIM for the WDS answer file?

    Thanks for your help! :]

  2. Thank you very much for the great video, very informative. Wondering if i could just go ahead and skip the computer name and let WDS client naming policy deal with it, will that work??

  3. Thanks for the video. How do we create answer input for creating computer names based on Dell service tag of individual computers? For example, "HOU(this is city name)-%serialnumber%". ?
